Who is prone to erectile dysfunction

The causes of erectile dysfunction are divided into two categories: organic and psychological. Among them, organic causes include blood vessels, nerves, endocrine and penis itself.

However, it should be noted that these high-risk factors are only the conclusions and possibilities obtained after statistical analysis, and it does not mean that these high-risk factors will definitely suffer from erectile dysfunction.

1. Age

In 1992, the US National Institutes of Health concluded that age is an indirect high-risk factor closely related to erectile dysfunction. As age increases, the possibility of erectile dysfunction increases. According to foreign reports, the prevalence of erectile dysfunction in men aged 20 to 30 is 7%, and the prevalence of erectile dysfunction in patients aged 70 to 79 is 57%.

Although the possibility of erectile dysfunction increases with age, erectile dysfunction is not inevitable in the aging process.

2. Disease

① The proportion of patients with cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease and hypertension accompanied by erectile dysfunction is 39% and 15%, respectively. And erectile dysfunction may be a precursor to systemic atherosclerosis.

②Diabetes is one of the diseases most closely related to erectile dysfunction. The prevalence of erectile dysfunction in patients with diabetes is 23% to 75%. People with diabetes for more than 10 years are twice as likely to have erectile dysfunction than those under 5 years. In addition, poor blood sugar control and smoking increase the possibility of morbidity.

③ The proportion of chronic renal insufficiency accompanied by erectile dysfunction is more than 40%.

④Hyperlipidemia, the higher the total serum cholesterol and the lower the high-density lipoprotein, the greater the possibility of erectile dysfunction.

⑤ Multiple sclerosis, stroke, demyelinating disease, Alzheimer's disease and other neurological disorders are all related to erectile dysfunction.

⑥ Endocrine diseases such as hypopituitarism, hypogonadism, hyperprolactinemia, adrenal diseases, hyperthyroidism, and hypothyroidism are related to erectile function.

⑦The probability of prostate and penile diseases accompanied by erectile dysfunction is more than 40%.

⑧The probability of ulcer disease associated with erectile dysfunction is 18%. Arthritis, allergies, alcoholic cirrhosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, etc. are closely related to erectile dysfunction.

3. Psychological factors

Psychological diseases such as schizophrenia, depression and drugs for treating depression are all related to erectile dysfunction. 50% to 90% of patients with depression have indifferent sexual desire; on the other hand, sexual dysfunction also often causes depression, anxiety and other mental abnormalities.

4. The use of diuretics, antihypertensive drugs, heart disease drugs, tranquilizers, antidepressants, hormones, anticholinergic drugs, and drugs for the treatment of ulcers may cause erectile dysfunction.

5. Bad lifestyle

① Smoking. The prevalence of complete erectile dysfunction in smoking and non-smoking heart disease patients was 56% and 21%, respectively; the prevalence of complete erectile dysfunction in smoking and non-smoking hypertensive patients was 20% and 8.5%, respectively.

② alcoholism. Alcohol is said to "enhance sexual desire and reduce sexual strength". Foreign studies have shown that the prevalence of erectile dysfunction in alcoholic and non-alcoholic liver disease patients is 70% and 25%, respectively. And half of them still failed to restore their erectile function after quitting drinking for many years.

③ taking drugs. Studies have shown that the prevalence of erectile dysfunction among heroin users is 32.2%.

6. Trauma, surgical spinal cord injury or surgery, pelvic fracture with urethral trauma, transabdominal perineal rectal cancer radical surgery, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection, aortic reconstruction, prostate cancer pelvic radiotherapy and any other trauma that damages penile nerve innervation and vascular supply , Surgery can easily cause erectile dysfunction. Therefore, surgeons should continue to improve surgical procedures and skills to prevent iatrogenic erectile dysfunction.
