Why didn’t the ancients eat salt?

In the early nomadic era of mankind, the ancestors captured prey, ru Mao drink blood, rely on the appropriate amount of salt in the animal body for the body's needs. When humans transitioned from the nomadic era to the farming era, the food structure changed, and instead of grains and vegetables as the staple food, they lacked salt from the animals. Because the plants contained very little salt, the ancestors began to search for traces of salt out of physiological needs. They found salt granules on the beach, or found salt in inland salt water pools and salt springs, which were collected and eaten, which gradually led to the production of salt.

What happens if I don’t eat salt for a few days

Everyone is very familiar with salt, and is very close to our lives. Most people cannot live without salt every day. They need to eat salt for three meals a day. So what happens if people don’t eat salt? First let us understand the basic ingredients of salt.

Salt refers to a class of compounds that combine metal ions or ammonium ions (NH4+) with acid ions or non-metal ions. Such as sodium chloride, calcium nitrate, ferrous sulfate, ammonium acetate, etc., such as calcium sulfate, copper chloride, sodium acetate, salt is generally the product of metathesis reaction, such as sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide to produce sodium sulfate and water. And what we are talking about here is the salt that is most closely related to us. The main ingredients of table salt are sodium chloride, potassium iodate, and commonly used seasonings to make our food more delicious.

Isn't salt just making our food more delicious? Then you said that I like simple and light food, can I not add salt? Is it okay to skip salt? This is not the case, there is no sodium chloride in the vegetables we usually eat. People ingest sodium chloride mainly to eat table salt, and the composition of table salt is sodium chloride. Sodium chloride maintains fluid balance in the body and is related to dehydration.

The normal saline is also sodium chloride, which has no curative effect. Most people will lose sodium chloride to replenish water when the fever is high, so that the cell tissue returns to normal. In addition, when there is a serious shortage of salt, it is likely to cause the big neck disease that we folks often say. The so-called big neck disease is hypokaloid goiter, generally no obvious symptoms. Touching the neck revealed mild to moderate thyroid enlargement, smooth surface and nodules. In severe cases, the surrounding tissues may be compressed, and corresponding symptoms of compression, such as shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, may occur. It can be seen that people do not eat salt, and it is easy to get big neck disease. Therefore, in order to be healthy, we must eat an appropriate amount of salt.
